Season 2 of Riverdale begins next week, and in addition to making Jimmy Fallon fan boy on The Tonight Show, the cast just gave a series of very revealing interviews to Teen Vogue about their characters’ fate . Here, the best new spoilers. Read all the interviews here.

1. Lili Reinhart (who plays Betty Cooper) isn’t even sure whether Bughead (the Betty and Jughead (played by Cole Sprouse) relationship) will make—especially after all they go through in the first few episodes of season 2. As she explains:

There’s definitely, it seems to be like, countless forces that want to pry them apart. Their relationship is being put to the test, totally. I’ve been able to see the challenges that have been thrown their way. And, it’s definitely hard. They’re young, they’re in love, and they’re trying to make it work. But, sometimes, the forces that be just don’t allow a love to survive. And sometimes love conquers the challenges, and they do end up together.

And, at this point, it could go either way. I don’t know. We’re not even halfway through the season. You never know what kind of twists and turns will be thrown our way and where our characters will end up going. But, for right now, I’m definitely rooting for Betty and Jughead to pull through. But, it’s all about as long as they’re happy together. They’re both going through such different things that if their relationship is only causing them stress in their lives, then it might be better to let it go. But, if they are kind of a beacon of light for one another and they give each other joy and happiness in this dark world, then I would say, hold on to that.

As for the news that Vanessa Morgan, who plays bisexual, maybe-rival-love-interest Toni Topaz, is getting death threats from fans because her character may break up Bughead, Reinhart reminds you that they are not their characters. “We are our own people with our own lives. We have our own relationships, and our own problems.”

“So, you cannot keep sending that negative attitude and energy toward an actor. She’s only playing a part….It’s just completely uncalled for, and inappropriate, to have anyone actually sending death threats to a character that may or may not come between Betty and Jughead. There’s a difference between the real world and television, and the line is being blurred a little bit.”

2. You don’t need to worry about Betty and Veronica (played by Cami Mendes) becoming enemies, even with their upcoming fight, because “they’re invincible,” Reinhart says. “When it comes to Betty and Veronica fighting, you have these two women who are so opposite in a lot of different ways. The nature of that causes quarreling sometimes. They’re never, I don’t think, ever going to hate each other. They’re never going to be frenemies, or have cat fights all the time, and, especially not over a guy. There are going to be be fights and challenges that come their way. But they overcome it, because they’re Betty and Veronica.”

3. Cheryl Blossom (played by Madelaine Petsch) will be showing her softer, more vulnerable side…and yes, she’ll eventually get a love interest. “The undercurrent for Cheryl this season is just that she wants to be loved and she needs to be loved,” Petsch explains. “She hasn’t felt love since her brother left the world. You do see a lot of camaraderie between the gang and her in very interesting ways. Cheryl goes through a couple of really huge things that will torture her, and the gang is there for her every single time.”

4. Cheryl’s love interest may or may not end up being Toni Topaz, who’s Petsch’s IRL best friend, Vanessa Morgan. “I mean, hey, I don’t write the show,” Petsch says. “I don’t know—I don’t have any say in who Cheryl gets a love interest with.”

5. Josie McCoy (played by Ashleigh Murray) and Cheryl’s friendship is going to be further explored, especially since they’re both on the cheer squad. “You’ll definitely be able to see how they get along, the different jokes they have with each other, and just the beauty behind the friendship that we didn’t get to see in season one,” Murray says.

6. Josie and Reggie Mantle (played by Charles Melton) are most definitely going to have a “very sexy” relationship. “It’s kind of a love-hate situation,” Murray says. “You get to see that unfold. It’s going be a lot of fun to play. Charles is so much fun as a person. He’s even more fun to work with. You’ll be able to see that energy and that chemistry that we share on screen.”

7. Archie Andrews (played by KJ Apa) is going to be all-consumed with finding who shot—note that Apa’s careful wording suggests that his father, Fred, was shot and likely not killed—which may hurt things with his GF Veronica a bit. “After Fred [is] shot, a switch is flipped in [Archie’s] brain where he’s kind of blinded by the revenge he has for whoever shot his dad,” Apa says. “[It] “takes over everything and kind of gets in between his relationships with all his friends, and with Veronica, his girlfriend.”

8. Sorry (or not sorry?), Archie’s music career actually isn’t over despite all the other drama in town. “I think that part is pretty much under wraps, […] but you can definitely expect more,” Apa teases.

Riverdale‘s second season premieres next Wednesday, October 11 at 8 P.M. on the CW.
