Pyer Moss’ Kerby Jean-Raymond isn’t afraid to get political. Each season, Jean-Raymond has used his platform to deliver powerful messages that address a range of touchy subjects like police brutality, mental health, and depression. So for Jean-Raymond’s new Reebok by Pyer Moss fall 2018 collection, it follows that the designer would continued his tradition, this time dedicating his show to celebrating blackness.

For the inaugural Reebok by Pyer Moss collaboration, the designer employed an all-black cast of models and celebrities, including Justine Skye and Vic Mensa, to model the unisex ranged, titled “American, Also.”
Jean-Raymond gave athletic classics a modern-day update with satin tracksuits, plush floor-length fur bomber jackets, and Western-style button-down shirts. Sticking to the Americana aesthetic, Jean-Raymond doused the Reebok x Pyer Moss in a palette primarily of red, white, and blue; models wore oversized scarves and jackets with American flag stripes and stars.
“The collection is the beginning of our journey in telling the story of underrepresented groups of Americans. We’re starting the conversation and this new direction for the brand by first speaking about the original American cowboy,” Jean-Raymond said in a statement. “The phrase cowboy, which was meant to be demeaning and derogatory is being reseen as regal and spiritual. Our hope is to continue to challenge traditional narratives of minority groups in this country and tell uplifting stories within our work, which encourage inclusion.”
Jean-Raymond also teamed up with Reebok to recreate the athletic brand’s classic DMX Run 10 shoe, unveiling his design, the DMX Fusion Pyer Moss, during his fall 2018 presentation. The classic sneaker was reworked in a futuristic silhouette with a breathable mesh and a chunky sole.
The Reebok by Pyer Moss collection will launch this fall in stores and online at reebok.com.
