Sarah Jessica Parker knows good lingerie. The actress and style savant, who has her own line of shoes with Nordstrom, a handbag collection, and a series of fragrances out in stores, counts a classic black bra as her wardrobe must-have. “I wear a black bra pretty much 365 days,” she told ELLE.com at the store opening of Intimissimi, a global intimates brand, last night in New York. Parker herself was wearing a “relatively simple, very flattering, black, demi-cup, slightly lace-y, joyful bra,” she said. “I like it, not as punishment or some kind of uniform that I regret, but I just always wear it. I wear with dresses, jeans, I wear it with everything. A black bra. It’s pretty much the staple.”

Surrounded by all this lingerie, we had to ask about that memorable scene in Sex and the City in which her character, Carrie Bradshaw, walks a charity runway show and falls midway down the catwalk. In the episode, Carrie dons a set of bejeweled underwear, created by Broadway costume designer William Ivey Long.

Legendary makeup artist Kevyn Aucoin, who passed away in 2002, was on the set that episode. “It was the probably the last time I spent any significant amount of time with Kevyn Aucoin, so that was the paramount memory. It was such a big deal that we got him, and that he came even though he wasn’t well,” Parker said. “We were trying to take care of him and hoping that we could somehow make it a pleasant experience for him. That’s really what I remember most from that day.”

Celebrity hairstylist Orlando Pita was also on set. “That was a such big deal for everybody, including people in the hair and makeup department. The fact that Kevyn and Orlando Pita were there was a really big deal,” Parker recalled. “So that sort of made us feel like it was a real fashion show, you know?”

Of course, Carrie’s dramatic fall (and subsequent Heidi Klum encounter) is also pretty hard to forget. “I had been injured and I was trying to figure out how to fall, because I probably had to fall like thirty, forty, fifty times that day,” she said. “And I was trying to fall and not injure myself. I had met this amazing woman the night before, who works on bodies. She said that what you want to remember about falling is this,” Parker said, making a motion with her wrist. “And I never got hurt, and I never forgot it. I love falling. I’ve done it in tons and tons of movies and TV. I love physical stuff. I think it’s really interesting and challenging, and I never get hurt.”

As for lingerie shopping, Parker has a few suggestions on how to find the perfect bra: Namely, to get the job done all on your own. “Go by yourself,” she said. “I never bring anyone shopping. I like efficiency, and I like to get it done and on my own counsel. It’s not like I’m going to put on a bra and march around the store and ask people about it, even those with me. It feels like economy to do it by myself.”
