February’s New York Fashion Week is notorious for being unbearably cold, so when it comes to getting dressed for days and days of shows our personal style comes with a heavy dose of practicality. Yes, ELLE staffers are obsessed with Uniqlo’s base layers to fight the chill, but see what else we’re planning to wear this season.

“Fashion Week is the perfect time to try something new and go for something a bit more daring than you’d wear every day. The most important aspect of an outfit for NYFW is the versatility of a look. I’m running from shows to meetings to dinners, and my outfit needs to be appropriate for all settings. And of course, no outfit is complete without the perfect boots and bag.” —Nina Garcia, ELLE Editor-in-Chief

“This outfit is a little outside my jeans, blazer, and black boots comfort zone but it is very comfortable, which is the most important thing when running around and trying to fit in pumping (I had a baby seven months ago). I’ve always been into the Lemaire look—simple, clean lines, lots of wide leg pants—so I’m recreating that a bit here and using one of the Lemaire-designed sweaters for Uniqlo.” — Leah Chernikoff, Editorial Director

“Here’s my fashion week wardrobe recipe: comfort, balance, fun, and I’m done. I’ll start with a basic base like cozy sweats and sneakers. From there, I’ll add a statement coat to give the eye plenty to look at and a simple beanie to keep me warm. A functional fanny pack is perfect for storing necessities like show tickets, lip balm, and a phone charger. To polish if off, I’ll throw in a bit of jewelry that’ll elevate even the most informal of fits and a touch of hidden humor (like these socks) because why the hell not.”— Jenna Blaha, ELLE Tech and Fashion Editor

“I’m having a black pants moment (thanks for the inspo, Nikki!) so I’ll probably keep that going through NYFW…though these are technically navy (surprise!). I’m cold, always, so a sweater is a must, but the brightness of this red and pink Marni one makes me HAPPY just looking at it, which is an added bonus. And as always, I’ll be toting my laptop with me everywhere, so my Mansur Gavriel bag will be over my shoulder every single day.” — Sally Holmes, Executive Editor

“I echo other editors’ cries for comfort, but I double down on practicality. I’m bouncing between shows, appointments, and coffee shops (all on foot), so NYFW is when I’m least fashionable. I don’t even need stylish puffers. Give me arctic-approved outerwear, real work boots, a fuss-free backpack, and no-stretch denim. The look is straight up Into the Wild, minus the sadness.” — Justine Carreon, Associate Market Editor

“My fashion week revolves around covering the hair and makeup looks backstage, where comfort is key and people are definitely not looking at your outfit. What I need is convenience: flat walkable boots, a tiny crossbody bag, jeans. I keep it simple with a few pieces that make everything look deceptively fancier— big, colorful earrings, faux fur, and bright lipstick.” —Kristina Rodulfo, Senior Beauty Editor

“I think the number one fashion week priority that all editors agree on is comfort. It’s a long week of trekking all over the city so being comfortable is most important.
